PART 1: The begining of a painting is the most exciting part of the creation process. Its the moment when your canvas is white, you have no idea how to start or what to do but you know you just have to do it, start from somewhere. In my creation process i try to stay free and attentive to the present moment. I dont really know what I am going to do and my goal is to enjoy myself while painting, feel happy and free. As i love strong and saturated colors, i use them as underneath layers to enlighten all the other layers and to give me more nuances later on. Join me in this video to see how i turn a white canvas space into an abstract shapes and colors as the first step of building my painting of "Pololu magic". Pololu valley is in the big island of Hawaii. It was one of the most magical spots for me on that island. An amazing feeling of well being and easiness embraced me while i was there so i carried it back to my studio. I mostly like to visit places physically, take pictures that i find intresting and challanging as a composition and combine them with the feelings and emotions that i had while i was there. Enjoy!
PART 2: The first part of my painting is based on free lines and brush strokes, and contrasted layouts of colors that will be a vital part of the finished painting, although they will be mostly unseen. The Second step is to turn all of that into shapes and forms that will reflect the construction of the composition and the right depth and proportions. By working with shadow and lights, i start to build the scenery but still keep my brush strokes loose and long. I start to give more details to the different locations such as the ocean and the mountain. More i work into details more i have to be careful and conscious about the total aspect it will give to the whole. More i advance in the process, more i slow down, working on the details knowing that it might change all the coloring and nuances of the painting.
PART 3: The end. After 3 days and approx 20H of work.I know in these videos it seems like 10 mins of work but... not.In this last step i was making sure that all the shadows are in the correct place and that they are reflected correctly on the black sand.I fixed the woman's body shadows and highlights and worked on details. This is a step that you want to do just in perfection. Overworking it can destroy the painting and bring you backward into step 2, that you have to build it again in order to fix, what you have just destroyed. that is why i said: i hope it will be painless.Doing the little things in perfection without overdoing it which will be the fine line between finish or destroying (and remaking) - what you have just done... i love to see the progress and the construction that came slowly into a painting
